Fans in Kerala: The Reason behind ISL’s Decision to Make Kochi the Venue for Final Match

The third season of the Indian Super League (ISL) managed to create large-scale interest amongst fans. The match was held at Kochi in Kerala, with the venue for the final event being the massive Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Kerala Blasters FC and Atletico de Kolkata battled it out at the finals, with the latter emerging as the victor.

Nita Ambani’s views on Kerala’s enthusiasm towards football

Founder and Chairperson of the Indian Super League and Football Sports Development Limited, Nita Ambani, revealed why Kochi was apt for hosting the finals. According to her, Kerala has been one of the few Indian states that have shown an immense interest in football. She even admitted that she is intrigued by the passion and pride with which the sport is treated in the state. According to Nita Ambani, Kerala’s dedication and contribution to the sport were the reasons why the authorities decided to reward the state by assigning it as the venue for the grand finals.

Attendance at Stadium

The intensity with which fans in Kerala have supported their team, Kerala Blasters FC, has been inspiring. This was evident in the attendance rate for the team’s matches, with stadiums packed beyond their capacity. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium can accommodate around 55,000 people and every match played by the Kerala Blasters FC managed to fill this stadium to its maximum capacity. Nita Ambani stated that across ISL’s three editions, the stadium in Kochi managed to accommodate more than one million fans. Since the state has constantly been associated with the sport for a long time, it has also been able to give the country some of the best players.

Fans’ immense support for their team

Nita Ambani personally lauded the enthusiasm of fans in Kerala and considered them to be one of the main highlights of the third edition. She even appreciated and thanked them for their unparalleled passion towards the league and consequently the sport. Nita Ambani added that it was their support that made the third edition an extremely memorable one for the football fraternity as a whole. She particularly highlighted how the fans kept the team motivated and cheered the members despite losing to Atletico de Kolkata. Nita Ambani stated that this supportive nature of Kerala Blasters Fc’s fans explains the strong bond that has been forged between the two. Her praises for fans in Kerala did not stop there. She even admitted that the fans have emerged as the true heroes of the ISL for all their support and enthusiasm.

The attendance rate of Kerala Blasters Fc’s fans at the stadium created a record for drawing the highest number of attendees for a sports event this year in India. In addition to this, Kerala also contributed the highest number of television viewers for the ISL this year. Overall, the Indian Super League has not only promoted the sport across the country but also scouted some of the most talented players who are capable of representing India on an international level.
