Nita Ambani is a humanitarian who has always worked for the betterment of children’s education and well-being. Even though she focuses on a variety of social initiatives through her non-profit organization, Reliance Foundation, she takes the time to promote art and reading of books and literature among young readers and adults alike. Over the last few years, she has launched a couple of books for popular authors like Asha Khatau and Gunjan Jain. And this year in February, she promoted a fantasy fiction book for none other than the daughter of renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
On 8 February 2017, Nita Ambani launched the debut book of Zuni Chopra, daughter of the filmmaker and established film critic Anupama Chopra. The venue of the launch was Crossword bookstore where the audience where also treated with author Amish Tripathi and Dangal actress Zaira Wasim’s presence. Ms. Chopra, who recently completed her high school, also read from her book, which is about Zoon Raizdan, a 14-year old student who is obsessed with her magical surroundings.
Titled “The House that Spoke”, the book takes its readers through the story of little Zoon who is convinced that her house is magical. She digs around the house, where she lives with her parents, and finds out that it has a dark past. As a result, she gets entangled into the house’s mystery which takes her many places. With Kashmir as the backdrop, Zuni tries to narrate the story of a young girl who is lost in a fantasy world without realizing that she is not too far from reality.
Ms. Chopra also autographed her book for Nita Ambani, who was shimmering in a floral top and black narrow trousers. Speaking about the book, she said that she was impressed by Zuni’s imagination for writing a fantastical story about a girl who is of the same age as hers. Highlighting her efforts through her foundation, she also talked about the importance of reading and how it should be an integral part of everyone’s life. She further added, “This evening fills me with nostalgia that brings the memories of Zuni’s childhood. I still remember the shy ten year old Zuni unveiling her first book – The Land of Dreams. Zuni is a true wordsmith who has won hearts of many people by her innate ability to express her imagination through words.”
Nita Ambani has always been vocal about her achievements, which has been evident through Gunjan Jain’s non-fiction book, “She Walks, She Leads”. With this book-launch event, it is clearer that she cares about literature and young readers.
