It is a well-known fact that Nita Ambani is an ardent supporter of any charitable cause that would help people to better their lives. With that goal in mind, she founded Reliance Foundation, a non-profit organization that takes several initiatives in various domains such as education, rural development, etc. They have helped better the lives of several impoverished people in several rural areas of the country. What’s more, there have been efforts taken to ensure that the children and women of these regions are provided with opportunities to improve their health, careers and more importantly, their livelihood.
Support for “Swachhta Hi Seva”-
Since PM Modi’s cleanliness movement “Swachhta Hi Seva” was announced, there have been a multitude of entities supporting the cause. Several NGOs as well as well-known figures of the society went ahead and declared their support for this initiative, whose primary aim was to achieve cleanliness in all parts of the country.
Nita Ambani’s Personal Involvement-
Naturally, led by Founder and Chairperson Nita Ambani, Reliance Foundation enthusiastically supported this program. No stone was left unturned while planning how to move forward. Reliance Foundation immediately launched a widespread cleanliness campaign in its operational areas in various parts of the country. Nita Ambani personally oversaw the various activities that were undertaken for achieving the goals of “Swachhta Hi Seva”.
Activities Undertaken by Reliance Foundation-
Reliance Foundation undertook several activities with aim to cover as many villages that fall under their areas of operations as possible. To that end, the Foundation focused on Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu initially.
Here, the main areas of focus were Bidar and Gadag. The organization started with various awareness rallies, door-to-door cleanliness campaigns and oath-taking ceremonies. These were held mainly to encourage people to work together for hygiene and sanitation. Also, in Bidar, school children, panchayat development officers, taluka officers, teachers and members of the village’s farmers’ associations (that were supported by the Foundation) all led an oath-taking ceremony, where a pledge to keep the entire village and all the homes in it clean was made.
Furthermore, door-to-door campaigns were organized to create awareness on various measures of sanitation and hygiene. There were several volunteers who circulated pamphlets to villagers which detailed different measures of cleanliness and hygiene.
The village panchayats in Gujarat, which are supported by the Foundation, partnered up with the local school teachers and led awareness rallies, discussing issues related to cleanliness and hygiene at each doorstep. Each rally culminated in a solemn oath taking ceremony, with all participants pledging to keep their villages clean and hygienic. Along with that, the participants formally pledged to keep their homes and immediate surroundings clean and hygienic.
In Tamil Nadu-
In the Foundation’s operational areas in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, awareness meetings were organized as well. The key messages on cleanliness, health and hygiene were spread across all the villagers. An awareness rally was held to raise awareness on issues such as garbage disposal, waste management and disease prevention. Several volunteers from the villages itself participated in the clean-up drives, which were also organized in public spaces. More such clean-up drives were promised to be held in future in order to maintain the cleanliness levels.
All this has ensured that the surroundings of the villages under focus along with the homes are now clean and the villagers have better and more hygienic and healthy lives. This is just one of the countless programs organized by Nita Ambani’s Reliance Foundation and there would be many more to come.
