When it comes to cricket in India, IPL has proven itself to be a smash hit. It’s a nail-biting, edge of the seat kind of entertainment that has also helped the sport here in India by providing opportunities for the aspiring cricketers as well as developing several youth programs for kids all over the country. Mumbai Indians, one of the original participants of this tournament, has always been wholly invested in this, be it the tournament itself or charity events such as the “Education for All” initiative that were set up in association with Reliance Foundation. Right at the center of all this is Nita Ambani, who has tirelessly worked to lead Mumbai Indians to the heights that they have reached now.
Support from Mukesh Ambani-
Even Mukesh Ambani, her husband, has always held the belief that his wife had built something right from the ground up; something which was a bigger brand than Reliance Industries itself. Nita Ambani admits that her husband was the driving force behind the success of her unrelenting efforts to bring about a positive impact, both in sports as well as education (via the Education for All initiative).
Even she opines that it’s all down to her husband’s unconditional faith that inspired her to understand the sport and to build a winning team. She fondly remembers the 10 years of her association with the IPL and Mumbai Indians and maintains that they are an integral part of her life.
Involvement of Akash Ambani-
Nita Ambani has now entrusted more responsibilities to her son, Akash Ambani, who has been playing a key role in the functioning of Mumbai Indians including actively participating in the team and management meetings, working closely with his mother. Being his mentor, Nita Ambani feels extremely proud of his achievement and strongly believes that his passion and knowledge of the game will take the team to even greater heights.
IPL Auction 2018-
This was visibly obvious when the IPL Auction for the 11th edition of the tournament was held last week. Nita Ambani had already confirmed that the goal was to retain the core of this team that has won the competition three times. So apart from retaining Rohit, Hardik and Bumrah, it also used RTM to get Pollard and Krunal Pandya.
It was a quiet first day of the Auction for Mumbai Indians, who just picked six players. But that was to change on the second day. The team had worked on a strategy, it seems; they bid for a lot of players in order to ensure squad depth who would be ready to defend their title. In the end, they ended up with 25 players and it was clear that the squad had a good combination of players, ready to face the rigorous season.
The Current Squad and Expectations-
Mumbai Indians are well known to have a big hitting top of the order. The squad now boasts of talents like Rohit Sharma, Saurabh Tiwary, Ishan Kishan, Evin Lewis, JP Duminy, Keiron Pollard, etc. This is one of the most enviable top order in the league, maybe even the best. Following up with that is the bowling unit, which includes players like Bumra, Sangwan, Fizz, Cutting, Cummins, etc.
The team is one of the most balanced in the league. Nita Ambani, as always, hopes to win the trophy, like always and perform in a manner that would make the city proud. This is what she’s working for, along with her son. The season is set to be one of the very best, by the look of things, especially for MI.
