The Reliance Foundation (RF), spearheaded by Nita Ambani, has been highly regarded for its social work. The organization has been actively involved in the fields of healthcare, rural development, and education, besides other areas.
Nita Ambani’s Education for All initiative
The Education for All (EFA) has been amongst Reliance Foundation’s most ambitious projects. The initiative was started in 2010 with the aim of providing underprivileged children access to quality education. Over its course, it has nourished the minds of more than 1,00,000 kids. Most of the children who had given up on pursuing their studies received another opportunity to secure their future.
Mumbai Indians in support of EFA
Mumbai Indians (MI), a leading team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been closely associated with EFA. The Reliance-owned team, through its ties with the initiative, intends to create awareness about the importance of educating children who may not have access to the right facilities. The Education for All initiative has completed six years, with its efforts to spread the light of education to several youngsters. In support of the cause, Mumbai Indians has dedicated several home matches to the EFA initiative in the past. This time too, the Wankhede Stadium was packed to capacity, with cheers from the crowds, which comprised of none other than 18,000 underprivileged children.
Children from NGOs at Mumbai Indians’ home match
Preparations made by the Reliance Foundation ensured that the children enjoyed the opportunity to the fullest, with special provisions made to accommodate differently abled children as well. Young kids from several NGOs were invited to witness the match. Reliance Foundation made arrangements for the visit by roping in nearly 2000 volunteers to look after the children. In addition to this, everything from the transport to meals was taken care of. Apart from private buses, the foundation also arranged for 414 BEST buses for transportation and 1,00,000 food boxes. Beverages and water were brought along to ensure the children were hydrated at all times. For emergencies, four medical centers equipped with a team of nurses and doctors were positioned in the stadium. In addition to this, ten first aid centers were set up as in the premises.
Nita Ambani’s views on EFA’s success
Nita Ambani revealed that the success of EFA has been one of her biggest achievements. She referred to Mumbai Indians as not just champions in the game but in spirit as well. She stated that Mumbai Indians has reached a milestone by completing ten years in the IPL. However, she also believes that the team’s success in reaching out to several children through EFA has been yet another milestone.
Mumbai Indians’ ten-year anniversary celebrations
Mumbai Indians has been an integral part of the IPL since 2008. To celebrate its decade-long participation, the owners of the team, Nita and Mukesh Ambani hosted a celebration at their residence. The event was themed as ‘MI10’ – Igniting Passion for 10 Years. It saw several Mumbai Indians’ past and present team members in attendance. The guest list also included support staff and other members who had been associated with the team over the years. The event saw Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani honoring Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, and Lasith Malinga for their efforts in building Mumbai Indians over the years. These three players have constantly been synonymous with the team, being with it through thick and thin, and in the process earning the title of the ‘spine’, ‘spirit’, and ‘soul’ of Mumbai Indians. The trio has been associated with the team since the beginning and is a major contributor to the team’s success.
The celebration doesn’t come as a surprise considering that Mumbai Indians has been amongst the most popular teams across the seasons. It has managed to win two seasons of the IPL, apart from emerging as winners in the Champions League T20. The team has also given Indian cricket some of the best players. It has discovered young and talented players like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, and Ambati Rayudu. These cricket players received the exposure they needed to establish their career in the sport, all thanks to Mumbai Indians. They went on to become household names, gradually getting better under the watchful eye of the best cricketing support staff globally.
With regard to Mumbai Indians’ association with EFA, Nita Ambani stated that the aim of inviting underprivileged children to be a part of the home matches was to create a memorable experience for them. She added that the combination of education and sports truly creates magic. Together with support from the Mumbai Indians team, Nita Ambani’s vision of making underprivileged children realize their full potential is materializing.
